The Coopetarrazu coffee mill works in harmony with
nature:
The pulp is used in the production of organic fertilizer
which is sold at cost to the growers. This is specially
important because the process is returning its nutrients
to the soil and also avoiding the pollution generated
by the dumping of these by-products.
The Cooperative uses a residual water treatment system
that applies the latest technology available and substitutes
the traditional residual water treatment method of lagoons.
Coffee Milling is dependant on water
and the coop has made sure that this water goes back to
its sources as clean as possible. Our system guarantees
levels way below the ones required by law and that the
water treated can be reused.
The coffee husk, commonly known in Spanish as “cascarilla”,
is used as fuel in the pre-drying and drying processes
saving the coop hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel
and allowing the use of an element that otherwise would
have gone to waste.
