| Baulas Blend is a joint venture
between Coopetarrazú and The Leatherback Trust (TLT).
Its main objective is to satisfy the needs of a growing market
for gourmet coffee in the USA while focusing on the well being
and conservation of the Baula turtle. Baulas Blend generates
the Leatherback Trust a donation of $4.00 per each pound of
coffee sold.
Baulas Blend Coffee originates in Tarrazú,
a region acknowledged as one of the three best in the word
for the production of coffee. Key to the quality of the Tarrazu
coffee are five characteristics: volcanic soil, location, temperature,
precipitation and altitude range. Grown between 4,500 and 6,000
feet of altitude as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB), this coffee's
blend of beans is specially selected to produce a well balanced
cup, intense aroma, good body and high acidity, the trademark
of Gourmet coffee.

The Leatherback Trust is a non-profit organization
by the laws and regulations of the state of Nueva Jersey.
Located in Haddonfield, the Leatherback Trust is supported by
Conservation International. The Leatherback Trust protects the
Baula turtle with a strong effort in the conservation and handling
of the Baulas Marine Park in Costa Rica. The organization also
has an education program at the Matapalo and Playa Grande grade
schools and supports a sustainable development program in
the park and its surrounding communities.
We are running out of
time!

The Baula turtles are disappearing due to the actions
of man: the harvesting of its eggs, subsistence level fishing,
real estate development in the beaches that surround the park
and the type of nets used in commercial fishing operations.
A
conservative estimate predicts the complete extinction of
the Baula turtle in the Pacific within 20 years. Even thought
the Baulas have endured the changes through the Glacial age,
changes in the level of the ocean and the same changes that
made dinosaurs disappear, this turtle will not survive the “human effect” unless
we have your full support. |
