Coopetarrazu R.L. is a cooperative located in San Marcos de Tarrazú, the region where the world famous TARRAZU coffee is produced.

Founded on October 13 th 1960 by 228 small coffee farmers, Coopetarrazu was born out of the need to generate better conditions for the growers.

Key objectives in this effort were:

• to bring back to the growers the control of the commercial activities surrounding the Original Tarrazu coffee.

• to create an organization focused on the well being of the farmers and the economic development of the region.

• to stop the unfair business practices of the big economic forces involved in the commercialization of coffee.

Today, Coopetarrazu is one of the most successful cooperatives in all of Costa Rica and strong force in the world's coffee industry. It is a 16 million dollar a year enterprise that produces the bulk of the Tarrazu coffee being used around the world and works under the ISO 9001-2000 standards.
